Every month over at DEDPXL.com there's a new photo assignment for the readers. The idea is to get you out shooting and making new work. I try to participate when I can. The latest assignment was 'The Egg' was a lot deceptively simple - make a photo of an egg. That's it. No other rules.
I made several sets of photos but I think my favorite was this sort of miniature set I created out of lump charcoal, baking flour and glycerin heated up to make smoke. The idea was to create some sort of otherworldly environment with the egg really huge in the frame. I love the challenge of taking household items and turning it into something greater. These assignments are great practice and good to get your mind working. Everyone should hop on over to DEDPXL and check out next month's assignment - it's going to have an AWESOME prize.
I'm honored to announce I've been asked to participate once again in Gauntlet Gallery's Daft Punk art show titled "Daft Punk Deux". The piece above "Face To Face" will be a new addition to this year's show along with a few of my works from last year (Veridis Quo and Voyager) Last year's show was a great success and brought together so many amazing artists, and I was very humbled to be amongst them. Some of my favorite people out there like Craig Drake and Andrew Spear had some incredible pieces in the show and sharing walls with those guys is a great honor.
If you live in the San Francisco area you should definitely head down to Gauntlet Gallery for the show, it runs through June 24th. For those interested who don't live in the area, prints and canvases will be made available in Gauntlet's online store which you can visit HERE.
It's so fun to be part of shows like this and I hope that it becomes an annual tradition. Thanks to all of you for being out there supporting great art!
It's been a long time since I sat down and made a post like this...
So, almost 10 years ago my wife and I started a wedding photography business together. We had a lot of fun, put out some great work and met some truly awesome people (many of whom make up our current friend circle). But ya know, after 8 years of weddings, I ultimately decided that I really needed to get out and try some other things, and I'm grateful that I have a partner who is encouraging and supportive enough to allow me to do that. In 2011 I "retired" from shooting weddings and began pursuing my own freelance work in design, filmmaking and photography.
It's been a little slow going these past few years but I'm enjoying the ride. This year alone I've gotten to work with some folks that I deeply admire and respect and I've been involved with cool projects left and right. Most recently, I worked with Atlanta photographer Zack Arias on developing his brand new site DEDPXL as well as co-directing & filming the newest iteration of his photography education video, the OneLight Workshop.
I also recently had the opportunity to photograph the first new project of 2014 from prop and replica maker Volpin Props - a 1:50 scale model of the Planet Express Ship from the TV series Futurama. It's a really cool piece that went for $4000 on an open auction on eBay!
I'm really happy to finally have site up for the first time in a very long time. I hope to stay consistent about posting new work, travels and other experiences here so please stay tuned.
